World Trade Center Site
New York, NY

As I made my way past numerous police lines, the first thing I noticed was the ashen papers that littered the ground. In some placed, the piles of semi-burned papers rose 3 feet above the ground. I passed dust-covered evacuated busses on Broadway, shattered FDNY vehicles and various building debris. It was difficult to breathe by the time I got to Vesey St., and a ConEd worker handed me a blue ConEd helmet and a respirator. I turned right on Dey St. and walked towards the Site. If I had to imagine what Hell looked like, what I saw is exactly what I would have imagined.
